What held you back?

Was it money? time? lack of experience?

Or were you just afraid someone might already be doing the killer idea you’ve had in your head for some time or that the market was “over saturated”?

So here’s my new challenge:

Every time I talk to a prospect on the phone who has a “break-through” idea, something we’ve “never even HEARD of before”, the “next Facebook for ______ industry” – or whatever – I commit 110% to sending them a link to THIS VIDEO!

How do you think they will react? Think I’ll “close the deal”?

Have you ever caught yourself saying any of this?

Special thanks to Seth Godin and the Google Team for a great article on how to make internal sales to your boss – Make a video!

This is AWESOME on a couple different levels!

Keep it Simple!

First, the internet is still new to MANY people. Internet “junkies” that hack away all day often forget that most people don’t know the lingo that we all talk about. How many times have you heard someone say “Fox Fire…” LOL This is one of the reasons I’m so glad I started in the world of online marketing as a “normal person” that wanted to learn about the internet. Not only did this help me “keep it simple” when talking to others about what I do, but it also helped me see things better from the eyes of those that don’t know Copy from Paste.

Video is Simple & Direct

Second, people need the expertise of someone that has been there and done that. I love how Seth Godin and Google use this video as a way to teach people in ANY industry how to reach their audience. For Google, EVERYONE is their audience; they are showing, via this video, that people need to be educated and made aware of what a Browser is before they’ll even be ready to test Google Chrome.

I think this video also teaches us all about the power of video marketing. Gary Vaynerchuk has mastered Vlogging (video blogging) with his Wine Library videos. ESPN does a great job on their website by posting video highlights of the New York Yankees all over the place.

So, the question for each of you:

How are YOU using VIDEO on your website or blog?

Look forward to your answers!

This is the best thing I’ve seen on YouTube for a long time:

Are you using video to market your website? If you’re not, you’re really missing out. Although this video isn’t really marketing anything except a really cute and talented little singer, you can use video the same way to promote your products.

A video like this is the “viral” quality: it will get viewed and passed along to millions of people. Find a way to tie it (or a fun video like it) in to your marketing campaign and “viola” – you have traffic that you can’t even handle with tons of backlinks too.

Now go and do likewise

I read a really good article this evening about using video in your marketing on your eCommerce sites, blogs, and other online business endeavors.

What we need are tiny, specialized sites that obsess about specific industries. Is there a good video every day about how to do better real estate sales? If there isn’t, there soon will be. Or for heart surgeons? For every segment where there is currently a trade magazine, I believe there’s an opportunity to build a blog-like, woot-like, ad supported page that finds the good stuff.

What I get from this is that, in order to market our services and products most effectively online, we need to have a specific section of our website, possibly on the home page, that’s dedicated to video content. We are a “specialized site that obsesses about [put your mission statement here - what you are focused on doing with your business].” Here are some questions for thought:

“Is there a good video…about how to [make wall murals an important decoration in your home]?”

“Is there a good video…about how to [learn what are the best Japanese recipes and how to use them]?”

“Is there a good video…about how to [find the best cometic gaskets for your racecar engine]?”

“Is there a good video…about how to [keep clogging strong by selecting the right clogging shoes]“?

“Is there a good video…about how to [find the best used paperback books]“?

“Is there a good video…about how to [put your keyword phrase here]“?

The author of the blog post I read, Seth Godin, is a nationally famous public speaker and marketing genius. As I write this article, his ideas about video marketing make more and more sense to me.

How can you implement his ideas on your website?
