I find Twitter to be an odd site but it connects people. Having just launched a social network myself I look forwrad to promoting it on twitter. I guaranttee some exciting things will happen. One thing I have learned from the book I wrote is that evn though Twitter can be a great asset, you need a Twitter Plan. Not that big of a deal but let's say 15 minutes per day devoted to Twitter. If you stick with it consistantly you will meet people that you can do business with. But if you don't stick wth it everyday then don't bother, spend your time elsewhere.
